The Department
of Dermatology is a major referral center in the Rocky Mountain
Region for the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases and skin
cancer. Physicians conduct extensive research in the treatment of
skin disease, skin cancer, birthmarks, pigmented moles, blistering
diseases, acne, lupus erythematosus, contact dermatitis, aphthous
stomatitis, and pediatric dermatology. Research and referral areas
within the Department include:
 Cancer of the
Skin and Mohs
Micrographic Surgery
Evaluation
and treatment of patients with all varieties of skin cancer including
specialized surgical approaches to malignant melanoma..
Contact Dermatitis
Evaluation of individuals with suspected contact allergy or reactions.
Consult and Second Opinion Clinics
Evaluation
and consultation of difficult problems in adult and pediatric dermatology
by Professors of Dermatology.
Melanoma/Dysplastic Nevus/Pigmented Lesion Clinic
A multidisciplinary
clinic involving Dermatology and Medical Oncology for second opinions
and management of malignant melanoma or suspected melanomas. Photography
of moles “mole mapping” is also available.
Autoimmune Bullous Diseases Center
Evaluation
and studies of blistering diseases and immunologic diseases such
as pemphigus, Bulbous pemphigoid, dermatitis herpetiformus, erythema
multiform, Behcet’s Syndrome and aphthous
ulcers.
Lupus Erythematosus
Evaluation
and management of skin lesions of lupus and related conditions,
including a regional site of the Neonatal Lupus National Registry.
Mycosis Fungoides (Cutaneous
T Cell Lymphoma) Center
Comprehensive
evaluation and latest management of individuals with cutaneous T-cell
lymphomas.
Skin Immunofluorescence
Regional
and national referral center for evaluation of immunopathology of
skin specimens from patients with Bulbous, autoimmune and collagen
vascular disease.
Pediatric Dermatology
Routine
and consultive pediatric dermatology including birthmark evaluation,
laser treatment and pediatric dermatologic therapy.
Phototherapy and Evaluation of Photosensitivity
Clinical
management of psoriasis, paraspsoriasis, vitiligo and other ultraviolet
responsive skin diseases as well as evaluation of the light-sensitive
individual.
Genetic Skin Disease Clinics
Including
evaluation and management of patients and the National Epidermolysis
Bullosa Registry.
Dermatopathology
Regional
and national referral center for evaluation of both routine and
consult dermatopathology and complex cases requiring consultation.
Hair Loss Clinic
Regional
referral Center for scarring and non-scarring hair loss, specializing
in Alopecia Areata. Site of National Alopecia Areata Registry.
Psoriasis Treatment Center
Comprehensive
treatment center for psoriasis including the newest biologic/immunologic
modifier therapy.
Cosmetic Center
Medical
and surgical laser therapy of aging skin and cosmetic skin problems.
