The Division of Emergency Medicine faculty practice at two sites: the Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion on the Fitzsimons campus in Aurora and at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center Hospital at 9th Avenue. Both Emergency Departments are state-of-the-art facilities that provide the highest quality of emergency care available to our patients. The Emergency Departments are capable of treating all levels of injury and illness. Cardiac patients have immediate access to acute interventions and cath lab facilities 24 hours/day and the latest high tech resuscitation modalities in the event of catastrophic heart attacks. Our stroke program features a state-of-the-art stroke team that can provide the latest in imaging and interventional capabilities. At the 9th Avenue facility burn patients have the immediate expertise of the Burn Team in the state’s only regional Burn Center, as well as access to expert trauma care in the Level II trauma facility.

In addition to emergency care, the Division’s faculty offers expertise in altitude medicine, and clinical toxicology.

Altitude Medicine

The Colorado Center for Altitude Medicine and Physiology (CCAMP) provides clinical consultations in all altitude related health problems. These include the capacity to perform preascent physicals, assessment of how co-morbid conditions affect altitude travel, treatment and diagnosis of High Altitude Pulmonary and Cerebral Edema and illnesses of individuals residing at altitude. Specialty consultations can also be arranged through CCAMP with experts in neurology, cardiology and pulmonary medicine as needed for a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s problem. Primary consultations are performed by Drs. Ben Honigman (CCAMP director), Vaughn Browne and
Michael Yaron.

Clinical Toxicology

Under the direction of Dr. Kennon Heard, the Clinical Toxicology service provides expert consultations in all types of poisonings and overdoses on an inpatient or outpatient basis. Collaboration with the Rocky Mountain Poison Center extends world class expertise to all poison patients.
