Physicians in the Department of Pediatrics conduct clinical services, research and education at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, University of Colorado Hospital, The Children's Hospital (TCH) and National Jewish Medical and Research Center. The Department of Pediatrics offers facilities, clinical expertise and research programs unique in the Rocky Mountain Region. These include:

Adolescent Medicine
Comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care for adolescents with both physical and emotional problems, eating disorders, psychosomatic symptoms, headaches, and dizziness, adolescent gynecology, menstrual and breast disorders, contraception, chronic illness, school problems, and depression.

Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes
A nationally renown center specializing in the care of children with diabetes and in research in diabetes prevention. The Center provides comprehensive, long-term management using a team approach addressing the medical, educational, psychological, social and physical needs of diabetic children.

The Heart Institute at The Children’s Hospital
Treatment of complex cardiac problems; the region's largest and most experienced center for transplantation, interventional and electrophysiologic catheterization, heart failure, congenital heart disease and exercise/ preventive cardiology.

Child Health Clinic
Providing primary care for children with emphasis on underserved and special needs children throughout the region.


Colorado Sickle Cell Treatment and Research Center

The Sickle Cell Center provides comprehensive services for children and adults with sickle cell anemia and other hemoglobinopathies. Programs include newborn screening and follow up, family counseling and comprehensive evaluation and treatment.

Cystic Fibrosis Center
Regional referral center for both pediatric and adult cystic fibrosis patients, including clinics at The Children's Hospital and National Jewish Medical and Research Center plus outreach programs in Colorado Springs, Casper, WY, Billings, MT, and Great Falls, MT.

Henry Silver Pediatric Endocrine and Growth Center
A comprehensive regional center for the evaluation and treatment of children with disorders of growth and/or pubertal development, as well as those with disorders of the thyroid, parathyroid or adrenal glands.

Inherited Disorders and Birth Defects
Extensive services are available for children and families with a variety of inherited disorders. A federally-funded Mental Retardation Research Center supports diagnosis and treatment of children with inborn errors of metabolism.

John F. Kennedy Center for Developmental Disabilities/TCH Child Development Unit
The JFK Center provides a complete interdisciplinary consultation and treatment service for area health care providers, including psychology, psychiatry, speech/language, education, occupational therapy and social work.

Kempe Children's Center
The KCC, including the Child Advocacy and Protection Team at The Children's Hospital, provides multidisciplinary evaluation and treatment of children and families in circumstances of suspected neglect, or physical or sexual abuse.

Neonatal Intensive Care
"State-of-the-art" care of term, preterm, and extremely immature newborn infants requiring intensive medical and surgical care, including high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide and other innovative therapies for neonatal pulmonary and cardiac disorders. Pediatric Consultations/Second Opinion Clinic
An ambulatory consultation service to assist with diagnostic dilemmas or children with puzzling symptoms.

Pediatric Critical Care Medicine
Treatment of children with all forms of acute life-threatening disorders.

Pediatric Emergency Medicine
Emergent and urgent care for children presenting with all levels of acute illness or injury 24 hours a day with the full capacities of a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Resource Center, a fast track area for minor acute illness, and an observation unit.

Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition
Diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases of infants and children, including disorders of the esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas and complex nutritional problems.

Pediatric Heart-Lung Center
Treatment and research in Pulmonary Hypertension and care for patients with Acute Respiratory Failure. Multispeciality care includes Pulmonary, Cardiology, and Neonatology.

Pediatric Infectious Disease Service
Outpatient and inpatient consultation on a continuous basis by the broadest range of experts in the area. Pediatric HIV Clinic. Comprehensive care for HIV-positive children and pregnant women. The only Pediatric HIV Center in the region.

Pediatric Kidney Center
Treatment for children with all renal and renal-related problems, including dialysis and transplantation; the only center of its type in the region.

Pediatric Liver Center
Diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases, including pediatric liver transplantation.

Pediatric Neurology
Diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles.

Pediatric Nutrition Clinic
Diagnosis and treatment of nutrition problems in infants and children, including growth problems and failure to thrive, feeding problems, obesity and nutrition support, including tube feedings and parenteral nutrition.

Pediatric Pulmonary Center
Treatment of childhood respiratory diseases, including asthma, cystic fibrosis, sleep disorders, pulmonary hypertension, exercise related lung disease, and all forms of acute and chronic lung
disease.

Pediatric Rheumatology Center
Diagnosis and treatment of childhood rheumatic diseases and musculoskeletal disorders, including lupus, fibromyalgia and reflex sympathetic dystrophy.

Psychiatry at The Children's Hospital
The Department of Psychiatric and Behavioral Sciences offers a range of psychiatric services for children and adolescents. Special expertise for children with medical or developmental disabilities who have associated psychiatric problems, as well as for adolescents with eating disorders. Psychiatry maintains a close collaboration with pediatrics. Research on biological relationships with behavior disorders is ongoing. Child and adolescent psychiatry programs at The Children's Hospital include:

— Adolescent Medical/Psychiatric Unit - a 16-bed unit for adolescents age 13 to 18 with various psychiatric disorders, including combined medical/psychiatric
illnesses

Child Psychiatric Unit - 22-bed unit for children up to age 12

Consultation Liaison - a program for psychiatric consultation to the medical/surgical areas in the hospital

Medical Day Treatment - day treatment for adolescents with chronic medical illnesses complicated by psychiatric or noncompliance problems

Psychiatric Day Treatment - comprehensive psychiatric day treatment for children aged 6 to 12

Crisis, Access and Treatment at The Children's Hospital - an outpatient service oriented toward rapid access, consultation and brief treatment for children and
adolescents

Regional Hemophilia Treatment Center
Comprehensive diagnostic medical management, education and support services for persons with genetic coagulation defects.

Regional Program for Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation
The region's largest and most experienced center for the diagnosis and treatment of children with cancer and hematologic disorders, including the region's only bone marrow transplant unit devoted exclusively to children.
